Once upon a time there was a king's palace in a distant city. The king had twelve daughters, all of whom were more beautiful than one. The king decided to marry them all. But at the same time the king finds out that the princesses go out to dance at night. And no one knew where they were going to dance.


 The king was very upset to see this and he tightened the guard on the palace. But the princesses used to go out of the palace to dance in spite of such strict guard. The king's anxiety was increasing day by day. Eventually the king announced that he would discover the secret of the princess's dance. She will be married to the man of her choice, and the kingdom will be given to her after my death. If he fails to find out in three days, he will be sentenced to death.


The word spread throughout the kingdom, and the word of the king's proclamation spread to all the surrounding states. Then one day a prince came to the palace and said I will find out. So the king gave the prince a warm welcome and gave him a room in front of the princesses' room, where he could stay for three days, so that the princesses could come and go.


As night fell, the prince sat down to see when the princesses would go to the dance and find out the secret. But after a while, the two princesses entered the prince's room with a glass of juice. They asked the prince to drink juice and the prince drank juice. Shortly afterwards, the prince became dizzy and fell asleep on the bed.


Then the prince's eyes opened in the morning when the princesses came back from the dance. This happened to the prince for three nights and the prince could not find any trace. Finally, the hour of the end came. Because the prince had no clue, the king sentenced the prince to death. After that many people tried their luck but all failed and all were sentenced to death.


The king was not happy to see the princes sentenced to death and he was very disappointed because no one could find out the secret of the princess's dance. Meanwhile, a soldier who had returned home due to illness was returning to the palace when he was suddenly confronted by an old woman. The women asked the soldier, "Where are you going?" The soldier said, "I am going to the king's palace."


The old ladies said, "Are you going to marry the princess in the king's palace?" The soldier did not speak immediately! I'm not dying yet. So the old lady said you can find out the secret and also marry the princess. The soldier said happily, "How come the old ladies do not drink the juice that the princesses will come to feed you?" Then the old women gave the soldier a magic blanket that anyone could wear and disappear.


The soldier reached the palace and said to the king, "I will find out the secret." The king received him in the same way as the others, and was given the same room where the young men who had come first were stopped. As night fell, the great princess brought juice for the soldier. The prince drank the juice but did not swallow it. As soon as the princess went out, the soldier shouted and started acting like a goldsmith.
After a while, the princesses saw that perhaps the soldier was asleep. So he tapped a bed in his room and the bed fell back and a tunnel appeared. The princesses walked down the tunnel and the soldier picked up the magic blanket and followed the princesses. As they walked, they came to a garden where the leaves of the trees were silver. The soldier broke a silver leaf from there as evidence. A little farther on came a garden where there was a tree with golden leaves. The soldier also broke an address from there as evidence.


Then the princesses reached the river bank where the twelve princes were waiting for her in the boat. The princesses boarded the boat with each of the princes and went to the other side of the river. Where there was a magnificent palace, the princesses went to the palace with the princes and danced with the princes till late at night. And then return to the palace before dawn. The soldier ran before them and fell asleep on the bed.


The next morning the soldier showed the king all the facts and evidence. The king was very happy to see this, and he gave the soldier lots of jewels. The soldier was then asked about the princess of his choice. The soldier expressed his desire for the eldest daughter and they got married. After the king's death, the whole government was given to the soldier. The soldiers and the princess laughed happily.

پورانہ وقتوں کی بات ہے کہ دور ایک شہر میں بادشاہ کا محل ہوا کرتا تھا۔ بادشاہ کی بارہ بیٹیاں تھیں اور تمام ایک سے بھڑ کر ایک خوبصورت تھیں۔ بادشاہ نے ان سب کی شادی کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔ لیکن اسی دوران بادشاہ کو پتہ چلا کے شهزادیاں رات ہوتے ہی محل سے باہر رقص کے لیے چلے جاتی ہیں۔ اور کسی کو نہیں پتا تھا وہ رقص کے لیے جاتی کہاں ہیں۔

 بادشاہ یہ دیکھ کر بہت پریشان ہوا اور اس نے محل میں پہرہ سخت کروادیا۔ لیکن شہزادیاں اتنے سخت پہرے کے باوجود محل سے باہر رقص کرنے چلے جاتی تھی۔ بادشاہ کی دن با دن پریشانی بڑھتی جارہی تھی۔ بلآخر بادشاہ نے اعلان کیا جو شہزادیوں کے رقص کا راز پتا لگاۓ گا۔ اس کی شادی اس کی پسند کی شادی سے کی جاۓ گی، اور میرے مرنے کے بعد بادشاہت اسے دی جاۓ گی۔ اگر وہ تین دن میں راز پتا لگانے میں ناکام رہا تو اسے سزاۓ موت سنائی جائے گی۔

یہ بات پوری ریاست میں پھیل گئی اور یہاں تک کہ اردگرد کی دوسری ریاستوں میں بھی بادشاہ کے اس اعلان کی خبر پہنچ گئی۔ پھر ایک روز ایک شہزادہ محل میں آیا اور کہا میں پتا لگاؤں گا۔ تو بادشاہ نے شہزادے کا اچھے سے استقبال کیا اور اسے تین دن روکنے کے لیے شہزادیوں کے کمرے کے سامنے والا کمرہ دیا جہاں سے شہزادیوں کے آنے جانے کا پتا چل سکے۔

رات ہوتے ہی شہزادہ تاک لگا کر بیٹھ گیا کہ کب شہزادیاں رقص کے لیے جاۓ اور وہ راز کا پتا لگا سکے۔ لیکن کچھ دیر گزرنے کے بعد دو شہزادیاں جوس کا گلاس لیے شہزادے کے کمرے میں داخل ہوئیں۔ انہوں نے شہزادے کو جوس نوش کرنے کا کہا اور شہزادے نے جوس نوش کرلیا۔ کچھ ہی دیر بعد شہزادے کو چکر آۓ اور وہ وہیں بستر پر بے خبر سوگیا۔

پھر شہزادے کی آنکھ صبح تب کھلی جب شہزادیاں رقص سے واپس آئیں۔ تینوں رات شہزادے کے ساتھ یونہی ہوا اور شہزادہ کوئی سراغ نہ لگا پایا۔ بلآخر نتیجے کی گھڑی یعنی تیسرا روز آپہنچا۔ کیونکہ شہزادے نے کوئی سراغ نہیں لگایا تھا اسی وجہ سے بادشاہ نے شہزادے کو سزاۓ موت کا حکم سنا دیا۔ اس کے بعد کافی لوگوں نے اپنی تقدیر آزمائی لیکن سب ناکام رہے اور سب کو سزاۓ موت سنائی جاتی رہی۔ 

بادشاہ شہزادوں کو سزاۓ موت کی سزا سنا کر خوش نہ تھا اور وہ بہت مایوس بھی رہنے لگا کیونکہ کوئی بھی شہزادیوں کے رقص کا راز نہیں پتا لگا پا رہا تھا۔ اسی دوران ایک سپاہی جو علالت کی وجہ سے اپنے گھر واپس گیا تھا وہ محل میں آرہا تھا کے اچانک اس کا ٹکراؤ ایک بوڑھی خاتوں سے ہوا۔ اس خاتوں نے سپاہی سے پوچھا تم کہا جا رہے ہو تو سپاہی نے کہا میں بادشاہ کے محل جارہا ہوں۔

بزرگ خاتوں نے کہا کیا تم بادشاہ کے محل شہزادی سے شادی کے لیے جارہے ہو۔ اس پر سپاہی فوری سے بولا نہیں نہیں! مجھے ابھی مرنے کا سوق نہیں ہوا۔ تو اس بزرگ خاتوں نے کہا تم راز کا پتا لگا سکتے ہو اور شہزادی سے شادی بھی کرسکتے ہو۔ سپاہی خوشی سے بولا وہ کیسے تو بزرگ خاتوں نے کہا تم وہ جوس نہ پینا جو شہزادیاں تمہیں پلانے کے لیے آئیں گی۔ پھر بزرگ خاتوں نے سپاہی کو ایک جادوئی کمبل دیا جسے پہن کر کوئی بھی غائب ہوسکتا تھا۔

سپاہی محل پہنچا اور اس نے بادشاہ سے کہا میں پتا لگاؤں گا کہ راز کیا ہے۔ بادشاہ نے اس کا استقبال بھی ویسے ہی کیا جیسے دوسروں کا کیا اور وہی کمرہ دیا گیا جہاں پہلے آنے والے جوانوں کو بھی روکوایا گیا تھا۔ رات ہوتے ہی بڑی شہزادی سپاہی کے لیے جوس لے کر آئ۔ شہزادے نے جوس پی لیا لیکن اسے نگلا نہیں۔ شہزادی کے باہر جاتے ہی سپاہی نے کولی کردی اور سونے کی ایکٹنگ کرنے لگا۔

کچھ دیر بعد شہزادیوں نے دیکھا کہ شائد سپاہی سوگیا ہے۔ تو انہوں نے اپنے کمرے میں لگے ایک بستر کو تھپ تھپایا تو بستر پیچھے ہوگیا اور ایک سرنگ نمودار ہوئی۔ شہزادیاں سرنگ سے نیچے کو چل پڑی اور سپاہی نے وہ جادوئی کمبل لیا اور شہزادیوں کے پیچھے چل پڑا۔ چلتے چلتے وہ ایک باغ میں پہنچے جہاں کے درختوں کے پتے چاندی کے تھے۔ سپاہی نے وہاں سے چاندی کا ایک پتا ثبوت کے طور پر توڑ لیا۔ کچھ دور آگے گئے تو ایک باغ آیا جہاں سونے کے پتوں والا درخت تھا سپاہی نے وہاں سے بھی ایک پتہ ثبوت کے طور پر توڑ لیا۔

پھر شہزادیاں ندی کنارے پہنچی جہاں بارہ شہزادے ان کا کشتی پر انتظار کر رہے تھے۔ شہزادیاں ایک ایک شہزادے کے ساتھ کشتی پر سوار ہوئی اور ندی کے دوسرے کنارے چلے گئی۔ جہاں ایک بہت بڑا عالی شان محل تھا شہزادیاں شہزادوں کے ساتھ محل میں گئی اور شہزادوں کے ساتھ دیر رات تک رقص کرتی رہیں۔ اور پھر صبح ہونے سے پہلے محل میں لوٹ آئیں۔ سپاہی ان سے پہلے بھاگ کر بستر پر آکر سو گیا۔

اگلی صبح سپاہی نے سارا واقع اور ثبوت بادشاہ کو دیکھاۓ۔ بادشاہ یہ دیکھ کر بہت خوش ہوا، اور سپاہی کو ڈھیر سارے جواہرات سے نوازا۔ پھر سپاہی سے اس کی پسند کی شہزادی کے بارے میں پوچھا گیا۔ سپاہی نے بڑی بیٹی سے خواہش کا اظہار کیا اور ان دونوں کی شادی ہوگئی۔ بادشاہ کے مرنے کے بعد ساری حکومت سپاہی کو مل گئی۔ سپاہی اور شہزادی ہنسی خوشی رہنے لگے۔
